See How Canine Epilepsy Can Be Caused by Nutritional Deficiencies

(NaturalNews) Epilepsy has become a growing concern for dog owners and veterinarians alike. It can be traumatic watching helplessly as your best friend suffers from an epileptic seizure. Yet, oftentimes the solution is a simple one. It involves correcting the dog's diet and focusing on possible nutritional deficiencies.

Epilepsy is caused by a short circuit in the electrical system of the brain which, in turn, causes sudden physical and behavioral changes. Symptoms include seizures, loss of consciousness, stiffness, salivating, urinating, muscle twitching, and staring off into space.

Canine epilepsy has many causes which can range from serious conditions to simply poor nutrition. These include:
  • *Brain tumors and other types of cancers
  • *Liver disease
  • *Low blood sugar
  • *Severe worm infestation
  • *Infections
  • *Cysts
  • *Head trauma
  • *Kidney failure
  • *Vaccinations
  • *Toxic overload
*Vitamin and mineral deficiencies, the key missing nutrients being vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin A, vitamin D, zinc, taurine, magnesium, and calcium.

Although some conventional medications may be effective, many come with side effects that can lead to other symptoms and conditions. Therefore, many dog owners are turning to more natural and safer ways of treating seizure disorders.

Feeding your dog a proper diet is of utmost importance. Society today has a "fast food mentality" and it is no different with respect to pets. While commercial dog foods are advertised as being healthy and nutritional, the truth is that the process in which these foods are made actually destroys the much needed vitamins, minerals and amino acids that are essential for good health. For example, the amino acid taurine plays a critical role in the way the nervous system functions and a magnesium deficiency is linked to seizures. Additionally, commercial dog foods are laden with chemicals and additives that further damage the body. Allergies, hypertension, diabetes, nervousness, weight problems, dry skin, seizures, and even cancer are often the result of such poor quality foods.

Research has shown that a low quality diet which includes chemicals, fillers, stabilizers, and other unnatural ingredients produces epileptic-like changes in the brains of rats that eat it regularly. Additional ingredients such as gluten, grains, soy, and corn can also lead to allergies and poor health conditions. Dogs are basically carnivores that require quality sources of protein in order to maintain good health. If plants, cereal and grains are the main sources of a dog's diet, a dog may develop a protein deficiency. Any proteins that are present are also partially destroyed during the heating process. All canned and dry dog foods are made by using this heating process and are, therefore, likely protein deficient.

Raw food is the best diet for a dog. It contains the best sources of protein, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and enzymes. This type of diet will go a long way toward controlling or even eliminating seizures. However, the diet must be well balanced and tailored to the dog's individual needs. Any type of poorly planned diet, including raw, will not supply the essential nutrients a dog needs to achieve optimum health.

After the first epileptic seizure occurrence, the first step is to rule out any serious conditions. Stay calm as the seizure runs its course. If the dog is near objects that could inflict harm, if possible, gently move the dog to a clear area. Ensure your own safety at all times and make certain to keep away from the dog's mouth. Please keep in mind that if the seizure lasts for five minutes or longer, this is a medical emergency and a veterinarian or emergency clinic should be contacted immediately.

A Colloidal Silver Success Story

I know you post many success stories here on the wonderful effects of CS, but none can compare with this one I think. About a year ago my cat Baby became very ill. She was in the hospital twice and had a very extensive operation causing her to be in the hospital for 10 days.

She was not eating and going to the bathroom for several weeks. Her temperature was 105 and for cats that is very bad. They told me to say goodbye to her. I cried every day and begged Allah for help.

I called daily to see how Baby was doing and everyday the same response is coming, "Baby will not eat." I thought how can she possibly live if she can't eat. They refused to let her come home due to the fact of her operation and high temperature.

Finally after 10 days I brought her home still with a 104 temperature, not going to the bathroom and failure to eat. She was so happy to see me.

So I brought her home and opened up a can of very healthy cat food for her with liver in it and the stupid cat ate like a pig. I told her,"Why didn't you eat at the doctor's office?" She just smirked.

Baby started to get better but was not well and had a temperature constantly and Luella May, my friend, told me there was only one thing that could save her and that was a colloidal silver generator.

I saved for a pocket one and sure enough it finally arrived in Jordan. I had to pay 60 dollars in customs to get it through though.

Baby fought me tooth and nail over the injections orally I gave her. She hated the stuff. I put it in her food and she would refuse to eat.

Miraculously she started liking the stuff and i put lots of it in her water. She would gulp the water down like crazy. Now Baby developed a beautiful coat and fur soft as a baby and I was surprised.

Well Baby is 100% cured now, no fever, fat as a pig and the star of the neighborhood. People who visit me want to know my secret. When I tell them about the silver water they are amazed.

Now everyone is wanting some of this miracle water. I tell you the truth without silver water, Baby would be dead. With silver water she is alive and happy. Now Baby is running free outside and a vision of health.

Maybe colloidal silver cures cancer, well it also cures my precious little Baby too.

Dog Ownership is Very Therapeutic For the Sick

(NaturalNews) The health benefits of having a dog include far more than just providing their owners with therapeutic petting opportunities and being willing to accompany them on a recreational jog. According to a new report in U.S. News and World Report, dogs can be trained to do a variety of important medical services for those with chronic illnesses that not only improves their quality of life, but also helps keep them alive.

Most people are probably familiar with the specially-trained guide dogs that help those with visual and hearing impairments perform everyday tasks like shopping and navigating public places. But numerous canine groups also train dogs to help people who suffer from many other physical and mental disabilities as well.

Canine Partners for Life (CPL), for instance, trains dogs to help people with arthritis, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and spinal cord injuries, perform vital tasks like picking things up off the ground and opening and closing doors. CPL's dogs help guide people who have trouble walking by providing them with steady balance.

Diabetics can also benefit from dogs trained to detect the onset of a blood sugar crisis. Because of their highly acute senses, dogs are capable of knowing in advance that a diabetic needs assistance, which prevents a crisis from occurring. Those who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can also derive similar benefit from dogs, in that their canine companions can detect the onset of a panic attack and help to prevent it from occurring.

Canine groups have even taught dogs how to help depression sufferers find relief from their emotional pain. A 2008 study published in the journal Society and Animals found that "canine therapists" effectively treat the symptoms of various mental disorders by performing a variety of functional tasks.

And for those with epilepsy, trained dogs can detect the changes in body chemistry that signal an oncoming seizure, and warn epileptic sufferers in advance so that they can take a proper course of action.

Traveling with Your Dogs

by Luella May
In today’s world, dogs are considered part of the family and more and more families are including their dogs when travelling. People who travel with dogs should realize that their pets can be very sensitive to change. It is important to make efforts to minimize stress and confusion as well as take safety precautions to make the trip a smooth, happy and safe one.

The most comfortable way to travel with a dog is by motor vehicle. This form of transportation gives the best opportunity to effectively tend to their needs and give them needed attention. However, not all dogs enjoy riding in vehicles. While some dogs jump at the chance to go for a car ride, others detest it. Sometimes car travel is not possible and air travel becomes the only alternative. If we know what to expect and prepare correctly, traveling with a dog can be a calm and enjoyable experience. It is important to do the homework necessary to insure the comfort and security of the cherished companion.

It may be necessary to prepare the dog for the upcoming trip. Here are some suggestions which may help:

*Introduce the dog to the carrier in ample time before the trip. Make it as comfortable as possible, including any favorite and comforting toys. Depending on the dog, the door can either be left open to provide convenient access at the dog’s discretion, or the dog can be placed in the carrier for short periods of time, gradually increasing it to larger intervals. Keep in mind, the carrier should be well ventilated and large enough for the dog to sit, stand, and lie down comfortably.

*If the dog is not accustomed to riding in a car, go for short rides, making sure to secure the carrier with a seatbelt.

*When the departure date arrives, feed your dog at least three hours before time to leave. Keep in mind that a dog should not be fed while a vehicle is moving.

*Whether traveling by car or airline, always make sure that your dog has the proper identification. Attach a tag to your dog’s collar that includes the name, home address, home phone, and cell phone.

*If traveling by air, the first step is to check flight restrictions. It is important to find out which airlines accept dogs and select the ones that will have the most comfortable and secure environment. If it becomes necessary for the dog to travel in the cargo area, it is important to make sure that the area in which the dog will be placed is temperature controlled and that the dog will receive adequate food and water.

*Dogs pick up on their owners’ emotional states. If you are anxious, most likely, your dog will be anxious as well. It is important to plan all aspects of your trip in a way that will insure your own peace of mind.

Homeopathic and herbal remedies can go a long way in calming a pet during stressful times. Passiflora incarnata, a passion flower extract, is an excellent choice for anxious pets. This herbal remedy is effective in soothing frightened dogs without making them drowsy.

Other remedies with calming properties include flower essences, lavender oil, and melatonin.

Accupressure is another effective way of calming a dog. For more information as to how to correctly apply it, please see:

The Many Benefits of Acupressure for Dogs and Other Pets

As a final note, dog owners should also realize that unrestrained dogs present danger to themselves and other passengers. For more information on properly restraining dogs and other travel safety trips, see:
